Eight Free FTP Clients

While not as many as in the past, there are still a number of good FTP clients that are provided for free. Some have adopted option to upgrade for a paid version if you require more features.

Please carefully read license agreements for details as they differ from publisher to publisher.

While basic features are very much similar among all FTP clients, there may be some special requirements that you are looking for such as:

  • SFTP(secure FTP) support
  • Integrated text editor
  • Ability to resume Uploads/Downloads
  • Synchronized viewing of local and remote files
  • Export and import of program and account settings

Download or upload speeds may not differ much from each other unless you’re a really heavy user.

I usually look for the ability to save the “account profile” where you can export or import configuration file. This is useful if you move to a different machine or reformatting your machine.
